Since the year is almost over... in just 8 hours, to be exact (the time I'm typing this is 4pm) I thought I would do a quick year-end review to round up my year 2012. I say it's going to be quick, but I just know it's going to be a long-ass post that's going to take me ages to write ;_;
I was inspired by
steffne who posted a journal about all the happy/good things that happened to her in 2012. I can't say that I'll only post happy things, but I'll try my best!
Often, the bad things which happen to us overshadow the good things very easily, and when we think back, all we can remember is the bad stuff that happened to us, and it makes us think that the year has been much worse than it actually was. So I'll attempt to remember the good things which have happened to me!
January 1. In January, I moved to a new school for junior college, and while I was sad to leave my secondary school behind, this began a sort-of new chapter in my life. Plus, the junior colege was a lot nearer to my home than my secondary school was, and I felt a lot less stress in getting back home early. I didn't feel the need to run for the train as much as I had felt the need to run for the bus back home last time. I'm thankful for my very convenient and amazing timetable this year, which allowed me to leave the school at 12.30pm three days a week-- a good fortune I am hoping to still experience in the year 2013!
2. I still had a lot more time to do art in January, so I did quite a few art pieces!
February3. I got into Runway, an activity club in my school, where we do fashion-design and construct our own outfits, to be showcased in our annual fashion show. It was like a dream come true for me, because I've always wanted to join the club, but in secondary school, they closed Fashion Cluster (somewhat the equivalent of Runway in my secondary school) to my batch. Though I do have unhappy memories of being in Runway, it has been an interesting and new experience for me.
4. I got to know my friendly and nice classmates, whom I'm very thankful for-- I could have gotten much worse. When I look back, I've lost the friendship of a few classmates beyond repair, and I'm not exactly on the best terms with some of them, and worse still I find myself hiding away into my own little shell and withdrawing away... but with a new year comes new challenges, so I'm pushing all the bad stuff aside and looking forward to a new, and last year with them!
March5. I had a lot of troubles with making my outfit from scratch for Runway, because I've never sewn anything to wear before in my life. But I managed to figure out something, and in March, I was in the process of making my outfit. A tiresome but satisfying experience, even though my work was slipshod at best.
6. I was having a lot of fun in school; this was the "honeymoon" period of the year, when sitting down to lunch with new classmates was fun and caused unstoppable fits of laughter every time. It was a time when I didn't care about getting home early to spend time by myself, when I didn't care about being unhappy, when I could sit down in the canteen for an hour each day, laughing with my new friends and just being happy. At least for this short period, I was enjoying school.
April7. Nothing eventful happened here, my outfit was still in the progress of being made.
May8. My outfit got cut from the gala night of our fashion show because it was too drab or dull, or the seniors just didn't like it enough. I was extremely disappointed, but I consoled myself with the knowledge that at least it would still show in the first two shows. After that, a week before, I was informed that they decided to put the cut outfits back in. I was surprised, and happy.
9. We finally had our fashion show! My outfit was a black corset dress, with a silver waistband, flared skirt, and a sort of cape made of chiffon and silver organza, hooked to the elbows and middle fingers. I don't have any photos here, and I don't have my model's permission to post her photos up here either.
10. Somewhere around May, I started my own fashion blog, "hazelnut-girl". I couldn't think of a good enough name, so I stuck to this boring, egoistical title with my own name in it, haha. On this blog, I post my outfits, nail polishes, and basically almost anything I feel like blogging. I know I will never be up there with all the famous bloggers because I don't have the X-factor for it, but it makes me happy to share my fashion style and daily life with whoever reads my blog. As it is, very few do, but I'm satisfied just to post my thoughts up. Plus, it's like a diary that I can read in the future.
June11. I only had time for one art! Another big art project was "in progress", that I only uploaded in July even though I finished it late-June. In June, even though it was the school holidays, I had to study hard for my upcoming year-end Promotional exams.
12. I celebrated my 17th birthday with some very special friends! Though some things have happened, and due to my childishness and pettiness, we are no longer as close, and in a sort of broken friendship, it was a good birthday for me. I had fun.
July13. Strangely enough, I did more artworks during this non-holiday period as compared to June. Not complaining though XD
14. I won a dress from a giveaway by one of the online shops I follow! I was really happy and surprised haha. I also won an aztec-printed top from another blogshop. This was a month of luckiness
15. There was an event held, for all the blogshops to come together and sell their clothes in a proper location. I was really excited, because usually you don't get a chance to try on clothes before you buy them. I went, bought a bunch of new clothes, and was happy haha.
August16. In August, I was still busy studying for my upcoming Promotional exams, and being really, really stressed. But I'm really not the type to study a lot, so it was a tough period for me. Having to juggle the stress of seeing all my friends study really hard, and having to push myself to work harder is tough. August was a slow month.
17. I watched a movie, Brave, with my class! I rarely watch movies so this was a treat for me haha.
September18. This was the month of my Promotional exams. I suddenly had a craving to watch any Korean drama I could get my hands on, and I would sit around in the canteen with one of my best friends from my class, moaning about our misfortune (being unable to watch dramas because it was exam period). I would then sneak home to guiltily watch K-dramas while doing revision. It didn't work out too well because I can't multi task, so I really hope this doesn't happen next year! It'd better not!
19. One of my favourite Korean actors starred in a new drama, Nice Guy. I was hooked onto it and hehe it was a time of eye candy for me! *swoons* I'm the hopeless romantic sort, just let me swoon until life catches up with me and I realize I'm an old spinster left alone on the shelf D:
October20. This month, I uploaded a deviation which got me the most favourites I've ever gotten.
21. I got my Promo results back somewhere around October-November, and I scored ok... Not the best I could have done, but good. I'm striving to score better, of course.
November22. I won tickets to the KissJane@Vivocity preview, and I went just for a peep. I'm sorry I didn't get to buy anything, but it was a fun time with Jess anyway. <3
23. I got caught up with pixelling because I didn't have time to do any proper art.
24. I won a premium membership from
zenx007! Thank you so much!
25. I went out with my friends for shopping, and we ended up playing in the arcade for a couple of hours. It was so fun, I haven't been to an arcade for a really long time.
26. I baked my first every cookies by myself without any help! Boy was it tiring, but so, so satisfying. I do wish I were better at baking and had more time to do it, though!
27. I created a new OC, Sonata.
December28. I made some improvements in my pixelling skills!
29. I experimented with brushes on SAI and came up with my first sucessful experiment!
30. I worked on a collab with :devtelly-shishi: which I'm very proud of!
31. I did a Christmas chibi-dump for a few of my friends and watchers!
32. I went to Bangkok for a holiday and shopping trip, and I bought a ton of clothes! I'm really happy with my buys and yay more things to blog about! Haha.
33. I watched a Korean movie in Singapore cinemas for the first ever time. And it starred the very same favourite Korean actor! It was an amazing movie, and I cried for the first time ever in a cinema. Gosh.
34. I lost 1 kg this year!
Haha it may sound really insignificant, but I find it sooo hard to lose weight, especially because I love food so much! Even though I had to cut back on a lot of my favourite foods, I really want to lose more weight. I don't have eating disorders or anything though!
I think that must be all!
What about you guys? What are some of the best things that happened to you this year, or some of the worst, and your New Year resolutions?
Mine would be to have more self-discipline, for sure!
Happy New Year to you all!
